The deceased Salim Qureshi's brother Halim and son Salman have stirred a hornet's nest by alleging that Salim was eliminated at the behest of Roxy theatre original owner Salim Baba's brother Jawed and that too in connivance with some senior police officials, builders and politicians. Qureshis made these startling allegations while jointly addressing a Press conference with Chhava Yuva Sanghatna, Samrat Sena and Maharashtra Vyapari Suraksha Sanghatna at a city hotel here today. Salim was involved in a dispute with Salim Baba over the ownership of Roxy.
Giving a new twist to the murder case, Halim indicated that there was a long chain of highly influential people involved. "Salim was eliminated by Imran Mehndi on the directions of Jawed and a few people from Hyderabad over Roxy theatre dispute," Qureshis claimed. Halim said, "A month prior to Salim's murder, a minister called Salim to Mumbai and offered Rs 5 crore for relinquishing control over the theatre but when Salim refused, the leader reportedly threatened him. PI and ACP level officials often harassed Salim over Roxy issue. When we went to senior police officials to complain about the harassment, the latter said that Salim had brought Rs 200 crore from Mumbai and sought info about the huge amount instead of helping Salim."
Yuva Sanghatna founder president Balasaheb Patil demanded that a CBI enquiry be initiated in the case as the police were trying to divert the attention of the common man from the murder. Patil said, "In all, there are 12 police officials, some builders and high-profile politicians who used Imran Mehndi, the contract killer, to kill Salim." Halim said at the time of his brother's disappearance, many senior police officials were on leave confirming their involvement in the conspiracy. To press for the demand of the CBI enquiry, the organisations have called for a morcha on June 20 starting from Kranti Chowk at 11 am. The delegates will hand over a memorandum to the divisional commissioner. As reported earlier, Imran Mehndi and his gang had kidnapped and murdered Salim Qureshi in the most brutal manner.
Police didn't pay heed to my complaint: Fahmida Ansari
Fahmida Ansari, the widow of Siraj Ansari, one of the victims of Mehndi gang, also joined the press conference in the second half. Siraj had gone missing and it was revealed that Mehndi gang had murdered him. Fahmida said, "After the disappearance of my husband, I went to the Jinsi police station, then to the CP office and to the crime branch many a time but nobody paid heed to my plea. When I went to the crime branch to file a complaint, the police ignored it. But when I named Nisar, with whom we were engaged in a property related dispute, as the person behind the disappearance of my husband, then crime branch PI Chate first gave a phone call to Nisar and called him but he did not turn up. Later, Chate said that Nisar was not involved."
Fahmida also stated that her family had given Rs 17 lakh to Nisar to vacate the premises they had purchased from Nisar's father-in-law for Rs 52 lakh but after taking the money, Nisar refused to cede control and when they filed a suit against Nisar, he got eliminated Siraj. news Source-Lokmat

Seven persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the sensational engineering examination paper leak episode. The prime accused of the case is a peon of the exam department of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu), while others are BE II year students of a city college.
They include Sachin Bapu Salunke (35,) and Ranjeet Waychal (22, both residents of Begumpura). The former is a daily wager peon in the examination department of the university and was engaged in sorting out sealed question paper bunches in the strong room while latter is studying in 2nd year of BE in the Everest Engineering College, Jatwada. The names and other details of five students couldn't be learnt till late night.
The commissioner of police (CP), Sanjay Kumar, told reporters here Thursday that Sachin did it for the sake of his friend, Ranjeet and others. Throwing light on the crime, CP said that on May 20, 2012 Sachin was engaged in sorting out sealed envelopes in the strong room. He took one envelop with him, went on the roof of the examination department, unsealed it and kept one copy of question paper in his pocket and later sealed all 19 in an envelop and mixed the envelop in the pile. Later he went to the canteen, copied the questions on a blank paper and gave it to Ranjeet and three others. In return Sachin collected Rs 2,000 each from them.
Handwriting proved handy
The engineering students, who were supposed to take examination of mathematics on May 23, made over 100 photocopies of the paper in the handwriting of Sachin Salunke. The deputy commissioner of police (DCP, crime) and investigating officer, Somnath Gharge, interrogated as many as 25 people including senior officials concerned.
Some of them failed to give convincing replies of the questions. Gharge called them next day and took their handwriting samples. They were told to write in hurry and it is here they zeroed on Sachin Salunke. CP Kumar told that some CCTV cameras have been installed in the examination department, but they were found defunct during check. This made the investigation a daunting task. It would have been a less time consuming task were the CCTV cams in working condition, CP added. Sources said that the CCTV cameras have been repaired and brought in working condition, following the breaking of the scam.
CP attributed the credit of success in cracking the case to a constable of the Begumpura police station, Praveen Patil and DCP Gharge. He lauded both for this task. One daily wager, 6 others are BE II year students Accused Sachin Bapu Salunke (L) and Ranjeet Waychal
Judicial magistrate (first class) Vijayshree A Godbole remanded Harsul jail prisoner Pawan Jagdishprasad Sharma in the police custody till June 4 for attacking a jail inmate Sachin Tayade. Officer of the Harsul Central Jail Rajendra Vasantrao Marale had lodged a complaint against Sharma with the Begumpura police station.
In the complaint, Marale stated that the guard of the jail informed him that two prisoners were fighting in an isolated cell. When he went there, he saw that Sachin Tayade was being taken to a dispensary in injured condition.
The guard A K Naglod informed Marale that Pawan Sharma attacked Sachin Tayade with a spoon like thing on his throat and cheek. Hence, Marale lodged a complaint against Sharma with the Begumpura police station.
The investigating officer S D Shaikh on Thursday producedSharma before the court. Public prosecutor Sunilkumar Jondhale requested the court for the police remand of Sharma as the motive of the attack is yet to be known as well as weapon is to be seized. Hence, the court remanded Sharma in the police custody for seven days.
To avoid any untoward incident like loss of human life or properties due to falling trees during heavy rains, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has appealed to the citizens to inform the administration about the trees in their vicinity or surroundings which pose danger.
The garden department authorities reasoned that withered trees or branches of big trees can fall on pedestrians, vehicle riders or people seeking shelter beneath them during lightning strike, stormy weather and heavy rainfall. The sudden uprooting of trees or branches can lead to loss of human life or cause damage to properties.
If the citizens spot any dangerous tree and alert the authorities, it would be possible for them to take prompt action and save lives of citizens and prevent damage to properties. Meanwhile, if the appeal of the AMC yields results, the burden on Fire Brigade authorities would definitely be eased as they have to run around during monsoon to shift the uprooted tree to roadside, and restore the traffic if a tree falls right at the centre of the road.
The citizens may contact garden superintendent

The Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) will be invoked against the contract killer, Imran Mehndi and his men in Sindhu Mhatre murder case. The commissioner of police (CP), Sanjay Kumar, said here on Friday that it will be invoked against Imran Mehndi and four others. However, the names of his accomplices couldn't be declared. The proposal to this effect seeking permission will be sent to the court soon.
As reported earlier, Imran Mehndi and his accomplices have been booked on the charges of committing five murders in the city during last 2-3 years. The last prey of the gang was a former corporator and owner of the Roxy Cinema, Salim Qureshi, who was kidnapped and murdered at night on March 4, 2012. During investigation it came to light that the gang had killed four more persons earlier.
They included Sirajoddin Ansari, Nilesh Mhatre, Sindhu Mhatre and Shaikh Nasir Shaikh Chand. Shaikh Nasir was murdered after Mehndi and his gang grew suspicious of him being a police informant while three others were killed on contract. The gang at present is in police custody and is facing interrogation of various crimes they are accused of. Last time Mehndi and his men were produced before the judge of the special MCOCA court, R R Kadam, who remanded them in police custody till May 31.
Mehndi is learnt to be a sharp shooter of Ejaj Pathan gang, which had a direct rivalry against the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and was accused of gunning down some of Dawood's men during gang war in Mumbai before 2007. On coming to Aurangabad, Mehndi started running an auto service centre in Katkat Gate area. Nevertheless, he continued his criminal activities till his arrest on March 10, 2012.
The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court comprising Justice A S Oak and Justice Sunil P Deshmukh directed the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to give a chance to local Oyster Institute of Pharmacy to present its side before withdrawing its permission. The State Government had given permission to start the Pharmacy Institute at Golatgaon (Naginchi Wadi) on June 30 last year. So the college which has admission capacity of 120 students, was started.
Meanwhile, the AICTE withdrew the permission due to lack of facilities like water, street light and books cover without numbers. The AICTE did not give any opportunity to the college to present their side. The administration of the institute filed a writ petition in the HC bench through Adv S V Natu. When the petition came up for hearing on Saturday, the court gave above judgment.
Even after 17 days of sensational Shruti Bhagwat murder case, five squads established by police failed to get any clue. Now, the investigation has been handed over to police inspector of crime branch Gautam Pathare.
It may be noted here that two weeks back Shruti Bhagwat was murdered in Ulkanagari area. Police's all-out efforts proved futile. Many hardened criminals were interrogated but nothing substantial came to the fore. A person close to Shruti was also interrogated, but it was learnt that he was travelling between Pune and Rajkot on the day of the murder.
The anti-dacoity squads from Ahmednagar, Jalna, Beed, Osmanabad, Jalgaon and other places also visited the city but they also failed in tracing the accused. Meanwhile, police commissioner had also appealed to people to inform police about any information they have had in this regard. But this experiment also did not click.
Shruti's son had told police that Rs. 20,000 cash and gold and silver ornaments were found missing from the house, but later it was found in the house.
Police initially thought that she was raped and murdered. But, there was no confirmation of sexual assault in the medical report. The police have completely failed in the murder case.
In a daring dacoity, unidentified criminals barged into a ground floor flat in Ulkanagari, beat up a sole woman inmate to death and made off with gold jewellery and cash, between 3 am and 3.50 am here on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Shruti Vijay Bhagwat (47, Shrinath Apartment). She was ruthlessly assaulted in her head with a short wooden stick in the living room of her flat and then dragged in the backyard where she was set afire half inside the house and half out. Shruti was living alone in her flat as her husband was working as a finance executive in a hotel in Qatar and son (Aditya 24) as a mechanical engineer in Insight Engineering, Pune.
Theft was motive
Commissioner of police (CP) Sanjay Kumar told LT that many aspects of the heinous crime are still unclear and police need some time to draw any conclusion. However, prima facie it seems that the culprits must be more than one in number and theft was their motive. Their movements might have woken up the housewife from the slumber, following which culprits murdered her to silence her. The mobile handset of the victim has been seized.
One of her neighbours, a police officer by occupation, informed the Jawaharnagar police station about the incident on telephone at 3.50 am and within 5 minutes a team reached the spot. Many senior police officers including CP Kumar, DCP Suneeta Salunke, PI Manikrao Warade, PI Avinash Aghav, APIs Arjun Pawar, Shaikh Majid, sub- inspectors Krishnakant Shinde, Harish Khatawkar, Shakeel Shaikh, ASI Laxmikant Khadke, dog squad and fingerprint experts reached the spot.
Dacoity with murder case
The exact value of the stolen gold jewellery and cash could not be learnt. A case of dacoity with murder has been registered in the Jawaharnagar police station on a complaint lodged by sub-inspector Khalid Pathan. Detection branches of all police stations and crime branch officials have been directed to deploy their informants to detect the crime.
